  • Boogie board or kick board*

    * "Boogie boards" or "body boards" are HIGHLY recommended for the swim. The swells and waves can be quite large in the BVI in Dec. The boogie boards will provide more stability and will keep your body higher out of the water making it easier for your team and boats to see you. If you choose to use an inflatable board, you must have a patch kit capable of repairing multiple leaks and holes. Inflatables are NOT recommended due to the rocks and coral you will encounter in this race. Note: We have heard that some competitors, because of their locations, are having a hard time locating swim boards, also known as boogie boards or body boards. There are a limited number of these boards available to rent on the island of Tortola from Last Stop Sports. You can arrange for rentals by contacting Chris Ghiorse at lssbikes@surfbvi.com or 284-494-0564. For those of you who do have access to the boards "back home," we encourage you bring them with you, as they fit nicely in your bike boxes (adding extra padding), and will be less expensive than renting on island.

If you do use glow sticks or chem lights you will be required to have at least 2 sticks mounted in the front and rear of boat during all pre-dusk, pre- dawn and night hours. The specific hours will be given in the passport. Be sure to bring plenty because if you have faulty chem lights or glow sticks, or end up paddling longer than you anticipate in the dark, you will not be allowed to continue the paddle.)
