Race Disciplines

Sea kayaking
The race organization will be providing sit-on-top kayaks from Ocean Kayaks (Cabo model). Please visit their website http://www.oceankayak.com/products/cabo.html for specifics. Paddling certification required.

Sailing
Race organization will provide 38' - 42' yacht and skipper. Teams are allowed to provide their own skippers (Yacht Master certification, sailing school certification or sailing resume pre-approved by the race committee are mandatory). The yacht will accompany you as a moving transition area and as part of the race on some days. We strongly encourage you to bring your own skipper (as an additional member of the team), but we will supply one if you don't know anyone who can d this. The boats we are using can sleep up to 8 people, so we have decided to allow 3 accompanying people to sail on the yachts with you, if you so choose. Accompanying people are not officially part of the event (they are not permitted at check points of transition areas), but they may help in a limited capacity at any time the teams are on their boats.

Open water swimming
Athletes will use swim boards (boogie boards) and fins.

Mountain biking
Bikes must be in good order. There is a lot of climbing!

Trekking

Scuba/Underwater Navigation
Race organization will provide tanks, BCs, regulators, gauges. Teams must have Basic scuba certification (PADI, NAUI, SSI or FAUI).

Each team will be required to have 2 members participate in the underwater navigation course (scuba). A third dive-qualified team member may be allowed to dive.

The underwater navigation course will require that divers descend to a depth of no more than 55 ft. This will be a one-tank dive that will take no more than 45 minutes. Divers will need to familiarize themselves with the dive gear provided by the race organization and will need to be aware of how much weight they require according to the thickness of their wetsuits. A dive brief will be included in the race brief prior to the race.

Rappelling and traversing
